Investing isn’t just peaches and cream

The beauty of human beings is that we have, as a species, short memories. We also forget that experiences that are “old hat” to us, aren’t for a generation just a few short years behind us.

Here’s a truth that can’t be said enough:

If you can’t sleep at night wondering how much more stocks will fall, then the stock market was never right for you in the first place.

My net worth has fallen, thanks to the stock market, over 6% since the beginning of the year. Should I panic? Absolutely not - I’m still better off than where I was January 2007. I’m considerably better off than a few short years ago, and I’m ridiculously better off than I was before the latest bull market run-up in stocks. I have the risk tolerance for the bad times, so I can make more in the long-run.
